KUALA LUMPUR (Dow Jones)--India's government-run National Agricultural
Cooperative Marketing Federation, or Nafed, has defaulted on a palm oil
purchase, a Malaysia-based trading company said Friday.
Nafed hasn't honored its purchase contract for palm oil, said N.V. Avalani,
managing director of Kalmart Systems (M) Bhd.
He said Kalmart sold 1,000 metric tons of CPO to Nafed at $1,190/ton, basis
cost and freight Kandla port for shipment in August last year.
A New Delhi-based senior Nafed executive, when contacted, said "Nafed
wouldn't like to comment on its business deals."
Avalani said that initially, Nafed requested for a deferment of shipment to
September but later didn't take delivery at all.
