CHICAGO--Soybeans and corn rose as the U.S. Department of Agriculture is expected to lower its stockpiles forecast for both crops. Wheat futures also gained.
The USDA will likely lower its outlook for soybean stockpiles on Aug. 31 to 139 million metric tons, down from 145 million forecast last month, according to analysts surveyed by The Wall Street Journal. Corn inventories will probably be pegged at 1.403 billion bushels, down from the 1.456 billion projected last month, according to the analysts.
With electronic trading paused until the open-outcry session starts at 9:30 a.m. ET, Chicago Board of Trade soybean futures for May delivery rose 12 cents, or 0.8%, to $14.94 1/2 a bushel.
Corn futures for May delivery 3/4 cent, or 0.2%, to $5.07 3/4 a bushel in Chicago trading.
Wheat futures for May delivery rose 5 1/4 cents, or 0.8%, to $6.86 1/4 a bushel on the CBOT.
