ICE Futures Canada canola contracts settled lower on Tuesday, consolidating after Monday's gains and following soybeans.
Soy oil and European rapeseed were also lower which contributed to the decline. The advancing harvest was another bearish factor.
The USDA is scheduled to release its monthly crop production and supply/demand report on Friday. Between now and then we can expect to see "massive" short covering and people "getting even" before then, according to a broker.
A lack of farmer selling was also a feature, he added.
The Canadian dollar was weaker against its American counterpart which provided some support.
Wet weather has set in across parts of North America which was also bullish.
About 29,000 canola contracts were traded on Tuesday, which compares with Monday when 27,000 contracts changed hands. Milling wheat, durum, and barley were all untraded.
Settlement prices are in Canadian dollars per metric ton.
